This is an easy product to review. Basically, while I feel I'm still too young to wear my trousers up under my armpits, I'm equally too old now to wear them down around my thighs - and I'm not exaggerating there; I've seen these dudes with my own eyes. Also, I tried a pair of 501s this summer (apparently, they're all the rage) and they while they were nice and comfortable, they seemed to hug me in inappropriate places. I feel I could wear them but only if I was feeling particularly adventurous.
These jeans though, are just the ticket. They are nice and loose, smart-looking (they go with everything from tuck-in button down shirts to t-shirts to hoodies to sweaters) and I am able to look somewhat trendy with them worn around my hips without looking like I'm trying too hard to look cool, or like mutton dressed as lamb. They are also very resilient. I have three pairs now, including a pair I bought in 2002, one I got on vacation in the summer and the pair I bought here.
If any of this resonates with you, I recommend you pick up a pair or two with dispatch. I was in my local Levi's store a few weeks ago and was told they are going to be discontinued. I was shown the model that will be replacing them (the 7-something, I can't remember the exact number) and I tried on a pair. I didn't like them even half as much as I like these and that's when I decided to get an extra pair online. I cannot recommend them highly enough. These are a great pair of jeans.
Levi's has seriously lost it's mind. Cheap, thin, scratchy, ill fitting jeans. Nothing like my old pair made in the USA.1
Original Review:
I actually own two old pairs of the 569 Levi's that were made in the USA. Nice thick fabric, strong rivets, tight stitching, generous cut...all that one would expect from Levi. These new ones from Essential Apparel however are made in Mexico and Levi has skimped on everything. The fabric is much thinner and scratchy. The rivets are weaker. The stitching is loose and sloppy. The cut is skimpy. Even the lining on the pockets is cheaper and thinner. Sending these right back. They are so bad you'd think these were cheap knock-offs. Very disappointed. If you love your old pair of Levi's don't buy these.
Update:
After much research and ultimately ending up at a Levi's outlet I discovered that this new thin scratchy material is their "fashion" material. It's intentional on their part. The sales staff said they no longer use the traditional Levi's jean fabric for the 569 line. They do however still make the 560's the old way. These are very close to the 569's in cut and looseness in the seat. So I bought two pairs of those at the outlet. Upon reflection (or is it resignation) I decided to just keep the "fashion" 569's and just get used to them because after my Amazon Card discounts I only paid about $17 a pair. I figured I could always use some lighter weight sacrificial jeans. Still think it's misguided to think someone who likes loose fitting jeans wants crappy "fashion" fabric.
all right by me !!!5
Levi's makes a great pair of loose fitting jeans for big and tall gentlemen who want a slightly more relaxed look to their jeans; and these jeans are a good choice for people like me who are slightly overweight. They just plain give you extra room; and that's great!
The denim is nice and thick; and these jeans are extremely durable. The excellent stitching helps make this possible. In fact, these jeans last for years at a time without any fraying--even at the bottoms of the legs. They are made from cotton and they are permanent press. However, I would wash these jeans with similar colors to avoid any color dye bleeding onto white garments in the wash or dryer cycle.
Overall, these fine jeans by Levi's easily rival any jeans made by other manufacturers. Make sure you choose the right size and color for you if you're using the pricing and availability chart above on this webpage. If you want a pair of loose fitting jeans, this may be just what you're looking for. I doubt that you'll be disappointed.
